Iro

Hei Nguru

The Iro represents the larval stage of the case moth.

A creature suspended between worlds, the iro moves by instinct rather than sight. It follows an inner knowing, guided by intuition and unseen forces.

Its form is derived from the child of the case moth. Significantly, it carries no eyes. Instead, it represents trust in intuition and the ability to navigate life through feeling rather than sight.

The patterns across its body are inherited from the Hua, carrying forward the whakapapa of the egg and reinforcing its connection to the state of becoming.

This particular model features two finger holes and an adjustable cord for wearing around the neck or wrist.

The Iro speaks to growth, instinct, and the courage required to move through the unknown.

This nguru may be played either by the nostril or the mouth. When played from the smaller end using the nostril, it produces a sweet, clear, and emotive tone. Played from the larger end with the mouth, the voice becomes loud and present.
