Kōauau Pongaihu

The Hua - the beginning of all things.

It speaks of potential, possibility, and the unseen future carried within every new life. The hua is a place of shelter, growth, and becoming, like the egg. It reminds us that before movement, before voice, before form, there is a period of quiet incubation.

This kōauau pongaihu is played using the nostril (pongaihu), producing a soft and intimate voice shaped entirely by breath.

Its rounded form echoes the egg of the case moth, from which the remainder of the series emerges. The carved patterns flowing across its surface represent the first stirrings of life within the protective shell.

This particular model features four finger holes and an adjustable cord for wearing around the neck or wrist.

Each Hua carries the symbolism of home, the womb, and limitless potential waiting to unfold.
